Yes! You can master

Disobedience

Raising the next generation lies in the hands of hard-working parents, teachers, schools, and many dedicated people, organizations, and groups that care. Disciplinary work is the responsibility of each family to enact rules that fit in with their unique family values. We know being a parent has its own sets of challenges that often remain invisible.

The Happy Life System teaches that disobedience is successfully dealt with through kindness – especially within the family structure. Operating within the Kindness Pillar elevates our lives, combats disobedience, and paves the path for a new era of greater appreciation.

What Is the Root of Disobedient Behavior?

Let’s face it: we live in a world today with too much digital time. The instant gratification hits of dopamine create a culture of entitlement. When children have an attitude of “I want this now,” they are in their small self, the egoic “I.” As parents and role models, we want to move them from “I” to “we.”

By teaching them that their every action affects everyone around them, children can start to reconsider disrespectful and disobedient behavior.

What Does The Disobedient Child Need?

Disobedient behavior can be anything from acting spiteful, continually challenging authority, being deliberately bothersome, and blaming others for mistakes. When children act out in this way, what they most need is to be listened to and understood. It’s likely they’re feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, and in need of attention.

The disobedient child needs kindness extended to them from loving adults in their life. By creating a system in which compassion, thoughtfulness, appreciation, and manners become a part of a family’s daily life, these qualities diminish disobedient behavior.

Love, joy and empowerment lie ahead. Our foundational pillars will guide you to building a bright, successful future.

The Kindness Pillar Within The Happy Life System

Kindness is an action and a feeling. To be kind is to be in the present moment, deliberately giving your energy and time to offer and extend to another individual to light up their life. The power of our loving attention is what transforms negative behaviors into positive ones. As parents, getting curious about why your child is acting disobedient is the first step. Instead of taking it as an assault or shaming them into changing their behaviors, recognize they are feeling overwhelmed on the inside.

As the role model, you get to demonstrate kindness to your child during hard times. By coming from a genuinely curious place, your child will feel your care for them. It’s this care that becomes the bridge to personal transformation.

To combat disobedient behavior, you can teach your child to operate from the interconnected self, the “we.” To teach, you have to embody your own interconnected self as well. This means that day by day, moment to moment, you shift your awareness from your own individual self to encompass the people around you.

Remember that the opposite of kindness is separatism. It’s easier to act in ways that are hurtful and harmful toward others when we only think about ourselves. When we grow compassion in our hearts for the living beings around us, naturally, our behaviors change to be in alignment with maintaining harmonic relationships.

Practical Solutions To Develop Kindness in Daily Life

Children often act in unkind ways when other people are unkind. Therefore, giving your child a roadmap not to let unkind acts disturb them will greatly empower them. Teach your child that every time we are mistreated, although it may hurt, it is actually a reflection of what the other person is feeling. From this deep understanding that someone else’s actions are theirs and not yours, we can move into action and create a boundary.

For example, imagine that your child is being bullied on the playground. For families who practice not taking in a member’s rude or hurtful actions but rather recognizing they must be stressed and hurt, the solution becomes curious listening. So your child, in the face of bullying, can recognize the hurtful action as a reflection of that person.

From there, they can ask, “Why are you hurting me? Why are you bullying me?” Often, when a disobedient child is met with genuine curiosity, their guards come down, and a bridge to working together to create a friendship is built.

Teach Children To Be Thoughtful

Everything begins at home. In order to teach your child to think about others within their environment, bring thoughtfulness into your everyday life. Tell your child, “You are a leader of thoughtfulness in this family, and when you think of me, this is how I feel.” And tell them how you feel.

The goal is to remove them from thinking only about themselves and move them toward acknowledging that their happiness is everyone’s happiness. Encourage them to choose one day out of the week when they’ll bring thoughtfulness to the family and to life. This can look like leaving a special note or going on a nature walk and bringing in a flower.

Teach Children Manners

Remember when people dressed up in their best clothes, always opened the door, and greeted strangers? Chivalry has become a lost art. Manners is what builds connection. Because we live in a busy, fast-paced world, many people find themselves in a lower vibration of frustration. How to set ourselves free? We can begin by teaching children manners.

At the dinner table, your family can practice going around the table, spotlighting each member for two minutes. During these two minutes, each person has a chance to speak unfiltered while everyone else listens attentively. Why do this? Because giving attention is the greatest form of love. By listening intentionally without distractions, you honor one another. And as we learned earlier, the root cause of disobedient behavior is feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, and not listened to. The disobedient child needs a lot of care and attention, which should be nurtured at home.

Another form of teaching manners is getting into the practice of dressing up. As a family, pick a special place for dinner or an evening out, and have fun dressing yourself in fancy clothes. Dressing up is a representation of pride, to get a pep in your style and feel good. Creating this sense of honor in our lives fosters building connections.

The Happy Life System

Our greatest purpose in life is to be happy, feel good, love hard, and build amazing connections. What we need as human beings to fulfill our universal purpose is to feel seen and heard. Disobedience stems from feeling separate, entitled, and hurt. Families that nurture the qualities of kindness, appreciation, compassion, thoughtfulness, and manners live happier, more aligned lives.

The Kindness Pillar informs, educates, and inspires children to consider how their behaviors affect everyone around them. Visit our homepage to learn more about how The Happy Life System can serve your family’s growth and expansion.

Who is Lauren Magers?

Lauren is a firecracker of a human. Her electric energy and passion have driven her to live life boldly and courageously. She’s one of those “there’s always a way,” people. Whether it’s playing collegiate soccer, building a business or raising four kids, her desire for greatness has led her to putting her heart and soul into everything that she does. Truly, no matter what she faces, she finds a solution with a smile on her face, even through the occasional tears.

When she became a mother to four children, she asked herself, “How can I raise a strong, empowered, and resilient being that can go out into today’s world and be a happy adult?”

This created a ripple effect of questions in her mind: What are the tools, what are the skills, and what’s the foundation I need to raise happy children and be a happy parent at the same time?

She focused all her attention on this quest and spent over 15 years and 15,000 hours researching, discovering tools, and inventing practices. Through extensive testing and a lot of trial and error and mistakes, she unlocked the truth that mastering your life and being a happy person starts from the inside.

She began to imagine the beautiful possibilities a child could create if they had a system internally empowering them from the beginning of their life. This was the ah-ha moment and the springboard that led her to create an entire system for a human to take ownership and control of the success in their life.

After she experienced the extraordinary outcomes of this system in her own life, she realized the greatest gift she could give would be to share this system with humanity.

It is now her life’s mission to touch as many people as she can with the Happy Life System.
